The Blue Cave, also known as Modra Spilja, is a natural wonder located on the island of Bisevo, situated 5 kilometers south of Vis Island. The cave’s beauty lies in the mesmerizing blue light that fills the space at a specific time of day. This occurs when sunlight passes through an opening in the vault and hits the ocean surface. The water and white seabed reflect the light, enveloping the cave in a layer of incredible blue.
Before 1884, the cave was only accessible through diving. However, an artificial entrance was constructed above the ocean surface, allowing small boats to sail in. Over time, the cave has become increasingly popular due to photos and videos circulating online. As a result, visitors must now wait in line to enter. But, is it worth it? The honest answer is a resounding YES! 🙂
But…there are a couple of things you want to keep in thoughts:
The best time to visit the Blue Cave is between 11 am and 2 pm when the sun illuminates the water at just the right angle, intensifying the color to an amazing level.
Visitors are limited to spending 15 minutes inside the cave per boat by the concessionaire, and swimming inside the cave is currently discouraged. However, taking pictures is highly encouraged, allowing you to capture your cherished memories.
Imagine starting your morning by swimming at the most beautiful beach, Stiniva, named the top beach in Europe for 2016 by the Brussels-based tourism organization European Best Destinations, following a poll of more than 10,000 holidaymakers. Afterward, picture yourself soaking in the colorful blue light of the Blue Cave. Wouldn’t that be perfect? 🙂
