Visit Stiniva – “hidden” gem on island Vis voted the best European beach in 2016.

Stiniva beach is located to the south of the local road connecting Podspilje and Plisko polje. It’s almost completely obscured from the view of passing boats. The bay is about 600 meters long and 100 meters wide, with high cliffs on both sides of the entrance. The closest point of the entrance is only 4 meters wide, forming a unique “sea doorway”. At the bottom of the bay, there are several uninhabited fishing houses. Both the bay and these houses are protected as a natural reserve.

A way to get to Stiniva beach?

By using boat

Book a seat for a boat day excursion from Split or take a taxi boat from the nearby cove at Rukavac to reach the secluded cove. The cove is only accessible by vessels that are small enough to pass through a narrow gap in the cliffs.

Taking walks

To explore the natural beauty of Stiniva cove on foot, you should ride to Plisko polje and follow signs to Zuzeca hamlet. There’s a parking lot where you can leave your vehicle. From there, walk for about 20 minutes along a narrow and demanding goat road that leads to this lovely pebble beach. Keep in mind that the trail can be challenging and not recommended for those with small children or older adults. The climb back up to the car can be difficult. It’s best to avoid walking during strong sun and wear comfortable shoes.

Gastronomy

The Stiniva cove offers natural beauty for the soul and traditional Dalmatian cuisine for the stomach. The Peruka tavern is located under the high cliffs of the cove and is the only tavern there. It is providing refreshments and lunch in a unique setting. For authentic home-cooked meals, visit the Golub tavern in Podselje. It is about 5 km from Stiniva, where you can also enjoy a wide selection of fine wines.
